Indian Army established its own Army Design Bureau


Indian Army launches Army Design Bureau to reduce dependence on imports. It has been established as a part of 'Make in India' initiative.

The Indian Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag said that the Army will set up a new design bureau and is on its way to modernize weaponary. "Increasingly the security environment facing the nation is becoming more complex and dynamic. I have told all army commanders to do a security audit. In our efforts to fastrack technological progress, a new Army Design Bureau is being setup," he said.


Army Design Bureau will provide a better understanding of the Army's requirement and it will help Indian Army to be involved at every stage of the production and development trails.


"We are looking at a networked style of functioning with a core group based out of Delhi and centers of excellence added to it." Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Subrata Saha said.

"When the industry suggests a product, they will go to the design bureau that will decide if the case is fit for an acquisition." Saha said.
