Army to soon have T-90 tanks with 'Make In India' Element

In a deal worth Rs. 13,448 Crore, Indian Army has decided to buy advanced T-90 battle tanks from Russia. This deal includes a Make-in-India element for integration at the Heavy Vehicles factory in Avadi near Chennai.

Currently Indian Army has about 850 T-90 tanks and it plans to induct 1,657 tanks by the year 2020, replacing the older variants of T-72 and T-55 tanks.

T-90 tanks is equipped with sophisticated state of threat system and are considered to be the most advanced in the Indian Inventory. Indian Army plans to obtain the latest variants to tackle high threat on the western front.
