Indo-Us relationship has been a ‘roller coaster one’ since the time of US President Ronald Reagan and subsequent Congress and NDA Governments trying to catch up, on strategic and economic agreements.

With several changes in High-Tech Sectors, Industrilization requirements, Climate change issues, Immigration policy, re-alignment of Nations, rise of the ISIS/ terrorism, Fossil fuel consumptions and politics and economic issues confronting India, there was a need to strengthen Indo-us ties with the visit by the Prime Minister of India recently.

There were several crucial outcomes of the three day visit to the U.S, in addition to the establishment of a personal equation with the U.S. President Donald Trump; which resulted in perfect meeting of minds between the two leaders. Some of the highlights are:

Ø Investment in India:- Top American CEOs of global giants including Apple,  Microsoft, Walmart, and Google discussed investment, visa issue and ‘Make in India projects and job creation.
Ø  Sale of Guardian unmanned aerial systems (drones) to India worth $ 2-3 billion, approval.

Ø   Focus on Indo-Pacific region respecting freedom of Navigation, over flight, Territorial and maritime issues and partnership in commerce.

Ø   Maritime Security talks and implementation of the ‘White shipping ‘data sharing including Maritime traffic and domain awareness and the Naval Exercise ‘MALABAR 2017’

Ø   Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) flow to India, worth nearly $40 billion.

Ø   On Pakistan- a Joint statement to call on Pakistan’s belligerent approach in providing  territory to launch terrorist attacks on other countries and  expeditiously take action on cross border terrorist activities including 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot attack.

Ø   Stress on fighting Terrorism in every part of the world by rooting out terrorist safe havens and commitment to strengthening co operation against terrorist threats from groups including al-Qaeda, ISIS etc and in support of the United States efforts to end terror in all its forms.

Ø   North Korea-North Korea’s continued provocations were condemned and a pledge to work together to counter DPRK’s weapons of mass destruction programs including accountability of other nations, that support these programmes.

The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump is on a positive run and in their determination to continue relationship in shared objectives between two of the worlds greatest Democracies!
